Hi guys. Welcome back to Motivational Monday series after one week break. Today's topic will be on "Healing from a broken friendship". Does it sound familiar to you? Probably some of you had been in this kind of situation before.
Losing a friend especially best friend is not easy. This is because friends are the closest person to us apart from our family members. Broken friendship may happen due to many reasons. However, no matter what are the reasons, don't ever blame your ex-best friend 100%. Both of you did mistakes that lead to the broken friendship.
You cannot change what had happened but you can do something to improve the future. At first, you might be emotionally not stable as you are trying to accept the fact that your 5 years, 10 years or even longer duration of friendship had came to an end. You are having the difficulty to let all the memories go which can affect your daily life. So, what should you do to heal from a broken friendship? Here are the tips that you can try.
First of all, you cannot keep what you feel now (disappointment, anger, sadness etc) to yourself. The longer you keep them, the harder for you to heal. You need to find someone that you can trust to tell your stories. The most important thing is to ensure that you find someone that can keep your secret. A good listener that can keep your secret and can motivate you is someone that you really need in this situation. If you are not comfortable to share your problems directly with others, you may use writing, drawing or singing to express your feeling indirectly. For instance, you can write poems related to what you are facing now.
Second tip is stop finding whose fault lead to the broken friendship. Your ex-best friend might did something that really hurt you and you might also did the same. However, your main focus should not be on the broken friendship but you should focus on the healing process instead. Bear in mind that no matter how bad your ex-best friend and your broken friendship, do not ever talk bad about them. Talking bad things about others does not make you look good.
Next, do not ever hold a grudge. Grudge does not help to heal yourself but it will cause you to keep thinking on something that hurts you. Move on means you stop thinking on the broken friendship. It does not means that you forget about it but it means that you already forgive your ex-best friend and accept the fact that your friendship has ended. Pray the best for everyone and hopefully they do the same for you.
Besides, try to keep yourself busy. Previously, you may spend time with your ex-best friend during the weekend. Therefore, losing them can make you feel lonely because there is no more outing together. In order to cope with this, you should find other activities so that you do not have time to throwback the memories. Perhaps you can start a new hobby such as gardening, cooking, playing music instrument and many more.
Last but not least, reduce or avoid something that make you recall all the memories. The longer your friendship, more things you have done with your ex-best friend. Both you may share similar favourite restaurant, favourite singer or favaurite sports. These sound like a common thing that others also have but after a broken friendship, they can be a sensitive issue to you. You might burst into tears when you suddenly recall what you have went through before.
In short, journey to heal from a broken friendship is challenging but it is possible. Do not give up easily and keep moving until you achieve your goal. Bear in mind that you can choose who you want to be with but you cannot force them to stay with you. Just let them go when the time comes and continue to enjoy your life.
That's all for now. See you again in the next entry. Have a nice day.
